Majorca: Holidays For Everyone

There’s a reason why tourism in Majorca has exploded in recent years. And exploded it definitely has – the number of tourists visiting the island has leapt from 500,000 in 1960 to nearly 7,000,000 in 1997 to over 20,000,000 in 2001.

So why are holidays in Majorca so popular with English tourists?

The Majorca Weather – Sunshine, sunshine and more sunshine

Well, the first reason is obvious – the glorious weather. Majorca is famous for its warm weather, and as Britain recovers from recent flooding, it looks particularly enviable. In summer temperatures reach 30 degrees Celsius at points, making it perfect for sunbathing without ever feeling too uncomfortable. Even in winter (which is still a good time to visit the island, but you may find much of the tourist fare closed out of season) Majorca’s weather is mild and pleasant with frequent sunny days. These warm temperatures are also matched by the waters, which are clear and perfect for diving (for those not content to just recline on the beach all day).

Majorca: A Britain away from Britain

Another reason for Majorca’s popularity with Brits abroad is because it is so British in places. Resorts such as Magaluf and Palma Nova are so well catered for British holiday makers that the majority of voices you hear will be English and the home comforts are easily obtainable from the local shops and cafes – be it a full English breakfast or some Cadburys chocolate. To this end, Majorca resorts often feel like a hotter beach based version of Britain which is what people often want from a break in the sun.

Rude not to visit Majorca at that price

Holidays in Majorca are really cheap these days. The competition between the island’s hotels and the growth of internet travel companies means that everyone’s trying their hardest to undercut each other. Without putting the hard sell on too much, I feel that my company (Search Travel Online) have got some particularly decent Majorca holiday deals at the moment – but I shall try and return to neutrality now…

Once you are actually there, the prices are good as well – compared to restaurants in the UK, you are in for a pleasant surprise when you explore Majorca’s restaurants and shops for the first time.

Majorca: Something for Everyone

The other odd thing about Majorca’s popularity is the stereotypical holiday maker it attracts – there isn’t one! We regularly sell to groups of teenagers, families with young children, young couples and even elderly holiday makers. Majorca is so varied, there are attractions for everyone. From the wild club scene of Magaluf and Palma Nova, to the historical heritage of Puerto Pollensia, to the culture and shopping of Palma, to the glorious beaches of Alcudia to the various children’s attractions and fantastic restaurants dotted throughout the island, you’re sure to find something to make your Majorca holiday memorable.

And the best thing about Majorca? It’s small enough to see as much or as little of this huge variety as you like with a rental car.

All the surrounding excursion sites are easily accessible from here and the friendly hotel staff willingly makes all necessary arrangements for the excursions.

Royal Visit Boost For Holiday Island

Leaders of over 50 countries from the Commonwealth will be meeting on the Mediterranean island of Malta from November 25 to 27, and for three days the island will be enjoying the attention of hundreds of millions of TV and online news viewers and newspaper readers worldwide.

Malta has often been overlooked by holidaymakers and second home owners in favour of other Mediterranean islands such as Mallorca, Cyprus and Menorca, and hotels and estate agents alike on the island are hoping that the three days of publicity will boost tourist and property buyer numbers.

With good all year round weather and an English speaking population visitor numbers from the UK, which make up about half of the island’s tourist numbers, have been surprisingly flat in recent years, and with cheaper holidays available in the new destinations from Eastern Europe such as Bulgaria set to capture more of the UK holiday and property market Malta could see tourist numbers remain level or even fall in future years.

Malta Holidays

Malta missed it’s own target of a modest increase in tourists this summer, and there are worries on the island that the opportunity to increase awareness among potential visitors will be missed.

Michael Johnson of Tribune Properties who specialise in property for sale in Malta comments:

‘Malta is ideally situated in the Mediterranean to attract tourists from all over Europe and further afield but for a lot of people I speak to in other countries it isn’t an obvious destination of choice.

The island has a strong domestic property market and doesn’t rely too heavily on overseas property buyers like some of the Mediterranean islands do, but at the same time those that do buy here play a good role in the economy overall.

The timing of the Commonwealth meeting is good as it’s just before the New Year when a lot of people decide where they will be going for their summer holidays, and next summer’s tourist could be next winter’s property buyer. But they’re only going to do that if they visit the island first, and I’m hoping that Malta will see an increase in tourists  – it really depends on whether the island takes this chance to market itself in the months ahead on the back of the free publicity the Commonwealth will bring..’

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting takes place very two years, and has its roots in the  British Empire, with 53 members who were former British colonies belonging to the organisation.

Queen Elizabeth II is the head of the Commonwealth, and will be visiting with Prince Philip for a two day trip to Malta to open the meeting on November 25 in Valletta, the island’s capital. It will be the royal couple’s first visit to Malta since 1992, and welcoming crowds are expected in similar numbers to their previous four visits.

In addition to the Queen and Prince Philip, among the attendees will be the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Tony Blair, and the Prime Ministers of Canada, New Zealand, India, South Africa, Singapore and Australia.

‘Around half of Malta’s tourists are from the UK’ adds Michael Johnson, ‘and it’s a similar figure for non islanders buying property here. As well as increasing holidaymaker numbers from the traditional UK market we should be trying to appeal to people in Canada, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand and other countries who take a holiday in Europe to consider visiting Malta for a few days to sample the fine hotels, hospitality, history and culture that the island is so rich in. But it remains to be seen whether the tourist board is capable of translating good free publicity into visitors for the island.’

A Sri Lanka Holiday In Galle Staying At The Amangalla

Sri Lanka holidays are becoming more popular, and the number of package holidays to Sri Lanka are once again on the increase. Sri Lank is a beautiful island with much to see and do from beautiful beaches on the south west coast, to historic places like the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy. You can visit working tea plantation or old British Hill Station at Nuwera Eliya.on your Sri Lanka Vacation.

One place you must visit is the Fort at Galle, and when you are there you need to stay in the Amangalla Resort.

Amangalla is an amazing hotel by anyones’ standards anywhere, but quite outstanding by anywhere else in Sri Lanka. The Aman group has done it again in Galle on the south coast.

Amangalla is within the ramparts of the 17th century Fort in the town of Galle, and uses the old buildings which date back in some cases over 400 years.

The historic town of Galle has a combination of houses from both the British and Dutch colonial eras, and the resort gives its guests a glimpse of historic Galle, with its narrow streets, daily life, and hustle and bustle of daily life.

Amangalla is a great base to explore the fascinating city of Galle, and the surrounding areas, and you don’t have to walk far before you can see and understand what the old Fort and Galle is about, and begin to understand its history and customs

The Hotel provides views either of the garden or the Fort and Harbour beyond, but it is the whole ethos of Amangalla that makes it possibly the ultimate hotel to stay in on your Sri Lanka holidays.

A typical day at Amangalla could well take the following format.

You will be woken by your own butler, and be served tea in bed. When the shutters are pulled back by him the sunlight will fill the room, and you may well be staring in amazement at the stunning view of the ramparts of the old fort, or the Old Dutch Church.

As a man you might start your day in the Spa and you can be shaved in the old fashioned way, even in a proper barber’s chair, with a proper cut throat razor!! This will be the complete London Club works, and will include hot and cold towels, and high quality pre shave and aftershave products.

After a superb restaurant breakfast in the Zaal, you may well wish to spend the morning around the pool, where you will be waited on hand and foot, with a seemingly endless supply of cold towels, iced water, even watermelon.

You may take a walk in the old town, or if it is too hot go to the spa and have a massage, but if you take a walk you will automatically have a guide, with such great knowledge about the history of Galle.

Returning to Amnagalla for lunch, you’ll be greeted with more ice cold towels, very welcome after the heat, and iced water equally welcomed. After lunch perhaps a visit to the spa’s hydro pool or sauna, a restful nap, then pre dinner drinks on the top floor.

Dinner will be of the same quality as the rest of the day, with a wine list to match.

Then bed perchance to dream of tomorrow and another totally relaxing day at Amangalla, part of a totally memorable package holiday to Sri Lanka.

A Historical Spanish Holiday

One of the locations very few would want to miss while visiting Madrid, Spain is the Puerta del Sol, or ‘Gate of the Sun’. This is a roadwork system that looks much like the sun. It starts with a slab outside the Casa de Correos, and going out from that slab are the set of six roads that make up the highways of Spain. As you begin your holiday of exploring Madrid, this is the place to begin.

At one time, the gates were the entryway into Madrid.  Back in the 15th century it was important to be fortified and the city was encompassed by a protective wall.

Now your holiday to this area will find less in the arena of military fortifications and more in the arena of interesting attractions.  Among them, a massive bear sculpture. He is eating fruit from a madrone tree. The tree is where the city gets it’s name, and the Bear is a symbol of strength for the people of the city.

As you continue your travel into the city down Alcala Street, stop at the Regina Hotel. From this location you can see the unique statues on top of the banks before your continue your trip.

One of Madrid’s most important sites is not far away. It is the House of the Post Office.  You will spot this building as the one with the large clock face on the side of the tower. It was built in 1768, and if you happen to be in the area around the New Year Holiday, this will be the location of the major celebrations.  The holiday celebration is the traditional festival eating of Twelve Grapes.  When the clock chimes, all will cheer in celebration of the New Year.

In addition to being a location for celebration and merriment during holiday times, the Puerta del Sol is also a location that has more serious moments as well. It is commonly a location where political demonstrations and protests are held. It is very possible you will see one during your travels.

Also in this area are all the other things you will be looking for on your vacation. There are a large number of shops that offer anything from department store shopping to specialty shops, antique shops and other venues. There are also a number of attractions to view, as well as a great supply of restaurants so you can try out a lot of the local fare.

You will not be at a loss for night life when you visit Madrid.  Often some areas just start kicking into high gear after midnight. There are street musicians, and a festive attitude as well as a number of bars and dance establishments to keep you busy until the wee hours of the morning. And when morning comes and you are ready to take up touring again, you are just a short distance from the Royal Palace or Palacio Real, parliament, Plaza Mayor, and many more shops and restaurants waiting for you along the way

A Cuba Vacation

Taking time out from the everyday stresses & strains of life to visit an exotic place is something that everyone looks forward to. Cuba, with its notoriety brought upon by its government & the clamp down of the American government on its export & tourism, is a country known more for its cigar & its leader,  than as a holiday location. Despite this, every year more & more tourists from Canada & Europe are flocking to Cuba, enthralled by its natural beauty & its passionate & welcoming people. Tourism in Cuba is currently at an all time high.

Cuba is the largest of the Caribbean islands & is inhabited by people with a mixed race of Caribbean Indian, African & german heritage. it's a contrasting landscape ranging from gorgeous & mesmerizing beaches to sprawling & craggy mountain ranges. Limestone Mountains loom over the fields of tobacco, utilised for their famed cigars, providing a stunning scenic view. The natural beauty of Cuba & its history has shaped the country to what it is today. This is seven Caribbean island that has been left unspoiled by technology & modern day living.

Aside from stunning beaches, Cuba also offers plenty of rustic towns & cities full of rich culture & heritage. A holiday to Cuba is not complete without visiting at least seven of the Cuban towns or cities & meeting the local Cuban people.

Like lots of of the Caribbean islands, Cuba's main source of tourism is the beach industry. The country is blessed with hundreds of miles of sprawling sandy beaches, with fine white sand & clear blue water. Tourists visiting Cuba have a multitude of choices for the location of their beach holiday. The major resorts of Varadero & Cayo Largo are the most renowned & here you'll find lots of 5 star all inclusive resorts. Despite this, there's also plenty of smaller, quieter beach resorts where you can truly get away from it all.

Havana also has its fair share of museums, including the Museum of the Revolution, the Havana Club Museum of Rum, the Cigar Museum, the Ernest Hemingway Museum & the National Museum of Fine Arts.

In the north-west of the country you'll find the capital city, Havana - the hub of everything that is Cuban. When you stroll around the city you'll feel the essence of the Cuban past - a rich legacy emanating from the german colonial architecture that beholds the city. Parts of the city resemble the set of an old movie, reminiscent of a bygone era, with old American cars bustling by. A lot of work has been done in the past decade to restore old Havana, a UNESCO world heritage site, but much of the city has been left untouched & hundreds of crumbling buildings collapse each month.

Santiago de Cuba is the second largest city in Cuba & is located on the eastern end of the island. it's a gorgeous setting at the foot of the Sierra Maestra Mountains & overlooks a magnificent bay. Unlike the other towns & cities in Cuba, Santiago de Cuba has a  Caribbean feel to it. This is as a result of the influence of the Haitian planters who settled here in the 19th century.

Trinidad, located in the heart of Cuba is seven of the original towns & was founded in 1514. The city is filled with cobbled streets & old buildings with tiled roofs & has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. it is a  pleasant city to spend a day or two, with lots of museums, churches & Plazas.

An ideal way to spend your holiday is to take a few days to do some sightseeing in Havana or seven of Cuba's other cities & then follow that up with a relaxing week's stay in seven of the luxurious all inclusive resorts by the beach.

Fly Fishing - The Simple Art

In its simplicity,  fly fishing transcends the commonplace to become art itself.

Years ago I used to live in the Berkshires, the heavily forested and hilly land of Western Massachusetts, home to writers, theater folk, artists of all types.  It is a beautiful place, a land rich with natural beauty.  Its rivers and lakes boast trout of all kinds - brook, brown, rainbow, even tiger trout (a cross between a female brown and male brook trout) and fishing with flies is deeply embedded in the angling culture of the area.

The Berkshires are home to painters, too, and of these I count Norman Rockwell as my best example of a  painter who grabs the inner heart of fishing.  Rockwell, who lived in Stockbridge, Massachusetts from 1953 to his death in 1978, did homage to that ideal.  All outdoor sports have their cache of needed equipment, and fishing is no different.  Every angler has his or her favorite fly fishing gear to port along.  But it is in the quiet simplicity of casting flies, over and over again, that one begins to feel what Rockwell once said:  "if it isn't an ideal world, it should be so."

Fly fishing is a game of cat and mouse, or fly and fish, true.  Whether it's Montana fly fishing, with its pristine mountain lakes and rivers,  or a wilderness trek for Alaska fly fishing, it's all the same.

Combing the banks, one is always on the hunt for the trout rise, trying to read its complex nature - bubbles?  rings?  nipping rise, or gobbling attack? - and thereby one decides on a fly and a strategy.  But at the heart of it lies the desire for more than fish.   One is after solitude and peace, and connection with a pastime which stretches back into the mists of time.

Perhaps no one said it better than Herbert Hoover:

"Fishing is much more than fish.  It is the great occasion when we may return to the simplicity of our forefathers."

Rome: influential Empire, Great Tourist aim

Rome was establish as distant back 753 BC by the clone, Romulus and Remus. It grew considerably until it became the Roman kingdom which was ruled by an Emperor from the year 27 BC.

The Roman Empire became a political and economic center for the Western World. Its influence extending far and wide and it was said that "all transportation lead to Rome." This most powerful Empire, however, fell in 476 AD. It had a rough history following its fall. The city preserve its status as the capital of the Papal States and later on it became a center of culture and artistic activity which it has somewhat retained to this day.

Over its restless history, the inhabitant in the area has risen and fallen depending on the style of the time. In modern times, Rome seems to once again be on an upward scale in terms of its enduring population.

It is a very admired tourist destination seeing around ten million tourists through its city every year. The city is a city of contrasts. On the one hand, tourists will find busy thoroughfares and luxuorious prices. On the other hand, it is full of small shady parks, fountains and piazzas. It is full of ancient ruins, famous monuments and fascinating museums. You can view the remains of ancient times, see the fantastic architecture from the rebirth period, enjoy a gastronomical treat in a traditional Italian restaurant or relax in the gardens of European monarchs.

Due to the huge number of tourists that visit Rome per annum there are a vast number of holiday accommodation options to choose from. From the traditional to the exclusive, visitors can choose the place that plea to them most. Hotels are a popular accommodation choice in Rome. They range greatly in price and quality. You can choose to stay in lavishness hotel or you can easily find a budget hotel often in the area surrounding Termini Station.

Holiday apartments or villas can be found to rent. These are a good option for small groups or families as they provide more space and seclusion than a hotel. Bed and breakfasts are fast becoming popular in Rome. If you go for this option be prepared that they may simply be a room in some-one's house.

This service will make your life easier by handling all the details of your travel, dining and entertainment arrangements and amenities. This concierge can meet the needs of the most discerning traveler. Your concierge is available 24/7 to assist you.

Executive travel is for you. VIP service includes everything from today’s newspaper to your choice of today’s extensive selection of unparalleled culinary delights. No request if too large or small. What better way to travel? One could get used to this! And, if you’d like, private jet membership is available. With private membership to an aircraft jet charter service, you will receive this type of service whenever and wherever you travel. This will be your style of travel.

Private membership to an aircraft charter company allows you to experience all the benefits of owning a private jet, without the commitments and costs normally associated with ownership or a fractional jet ownership program. This is especially attractive for those on the go. You are privy to a network of light, mid-size and heavy executive jets that are available at a moment's notice wherever and whenever you need to go. Most aircraft charter companies also have turbo jets, piston props and helicopters. This availability ensures that the perfect aircraft will be utilized for every private flight; whether flying simultaneous trips, transcontinental flights, or even short island-hopping. Usually, a call to the 24-hour call center provides the aircraft you need, including large, medium or small jets. In addition to equipment, a staff is ready to accommodate you on-demand. In today’s complicated world, aircraft charter service offers endless benefits to travelers. Think NetJets and other fractional jet ownership programs and plans.

Certain aircraft and helicopter charter companies also offer solutions with your logistical issues. Whether it is transporting cargo or emergency equipment, they will assume the responsibility of the task at hand. Transporting express items or even delivering emergency supplies to disaster areas are commonplace for these companies. Equipment and flight crews are ready to go where they are needed.

If your travel needs are even more extensive than the business traveler, you may also consider aircraft ownership. The aircraft charter service has extensive experience in the field of aircraft sales and finance. This proves to be a valuable resource in the complex negotiation and completion of an aircraft purchase. Should you need a management arrangement for your aircraft, this can be taken care of as well.

Not all executive travel is for business. Have you experienced the executive trip to the great outdoors? That can be accommodated. Aircraft jet charter is available to take you to any place for your special get-a-way. Whether you need to get to that remote resort or find a new, secluded spot, an aircraft charter service can take you there.

For example, if Alaska is your destination, you can be comfortable knowing that your "bush pilots" spend a great deal of time flying to numerous outdoor activity areas. They have the expertise of where to go for best success within their area of operations. Whether it's a weeklong fishing trip for record rainbows or the mighty king salmon, or a daytrip to view brown bear, an aircraft charter service will provide the personalized service that can make your Alaskan adventure a trip of a lifetime. And they will also provide exciting itineraries well within the average man's budget. If hunting is your desire, an aircraft charter will provide the finest in Alaskan hunting. Specializing in drop-off, unguided hunting for moose, caribou and black bear, they will accommodate your needs and assure you a tremendous experience.

There are literally hundreds of aircraft charter companies in existence, and they typically perform one, several or all of these four main services: leasing (sometimes selling) aircraft for private use, performing aircraft maintenance, providing fuel, and aircraft management.

If you are looking to lease an aircraft for a trip, there are several ways of going about finding an aircraft jet charter company. First, you can contact the aircraft charter companies directly (they are easily found online). You'll have to research rates, equipment available, flight time availability, etc. from each company, and then compare among them.
Second, you can contact an aircraft jet charter broker. These are similar to a travel agent that will take your requirements and match you with an aircraft charter in their network of companies. These aircraft charter brokers will handle all of the flight arrangements, including price shopping, determining the correct aircraft necessary for your trip, contacting the correct charter company, confirming insurance papers, and obtaining copies of FAA flight certificates, detailed information about the aircraft to be used, and what backup aircraft are available.

Third, you can use an online auction/bid service. These online services work by having you go through a step-by-step process of identifying the dates and locations of your flight, the type of aircraft you're looking for, and the price you're looking to pay. These online services will submit your requirements to many of the aircraft charter companies who participate, and you will be able to choose from the resulting aircraft charter companies who submitted a bid for your flight.

It is advisable to research the safety, performance and quality of the aircraft charter company; it's maintenance and flight crews, and the aircraft itself. In addition, you should find out whether the aircraft charter company you're considering makes arrangements for fuel, customs, immigration, landing and over-flight permissions. Also, following flight and airport reservations, ground transportation, and catering services should be reviewed. Make sure all other essential issues have been given consideration such as anticipated departure and arrival times, potential delays and plans for overnight arrangements for aircraft and crew.

Some aircraft jet charter company’s feature services that can make a big difference in your flight experience. Certain aircraft charter companies offer 'bare-bones' service, while others provide an assortment of services such as a dedicated dispatch team, real-time flight monitoring, catering arrangements, coordination of fuel purchases, hotel and rental car reservations, limousine rentals, customs permits and landing clearances for international flights. Some even provide security for you and the aircraft.

Safari Travel Tips

Before stepping on that plane for a marvelous safari adventure, plan like there's no tomorrow. You will thank your self for being precautious when faced with untoward incidents.

Here are the important things you should consider when going on a safari travel:

1. Remember that it is one challenging endeavor.

Planning a safari can be one of the most exciting feats one can ever manage to make happen. It is not one of the generic travels, usual jetsetters indulge in. Though you are provided with a tour brochure and a tourist guide, it still is better to research on your own regarding the various itineraries.

2. Best spots for safari should be spotted.

The most suggested parts of Africa to enjoy safari include East and Central Africa, Southern Africa and Indian Ocean Islands.

3. Prepare for the climate.

It is a must to know the seasonal trends and how they will affect your travel. But also remember that the weather is fickle-minded so you can never really accurately predict the outcome of your travel if you will base it one the weather alone.

If you are going to visit East and Central Africa, long rains start early in April to early June. Short rains abound during late November to December.

Southern Africa has its rainy season from late November through mid-April for the safari areas. However, during that time, it will be summer in Southern Cape.

When one prefers Indian and Ocean Islands he or she can expect the seasonal trend to be more like of that of Southern Africa. In these islands, summer rains last from November through April. Cyclones can also be experienced during those seasons. From May to October, the dry season occurs.

4. Choose your activities.

Among others, safari traveling offers these fun-filled activities:

a. gorilla trekking
b. sailing
c. birdwatching
d. participatory camping
e. self driving

5. Know what you can afford.

When choosing a trip, budget constraints should never be overlooked. Decide on a price range that you can work on. To make your budgeting more effective consider the level of luxury of your safari travel, length of your trip, activities, accommodations preferences, meals and season.

6. Determine your travel style.

Do you prefer your safari to be more luxurious, moderate or rustic? Will you let kids tag along? Are you traveling with a group or will you be one bold, independent traveler? Will you travel by air or road? What about your guide and your vehicle?

Answering those questions will more or less improve your overview of your dream safari travel.

Have fun!

Treat yourself to a luxurious beach holiday

Each year I put my all into my work and each year I decide ‘this year I am going to treat myself to a decent beach vacation’. Unfortunately, for some or other reason when it’s close to the end of the year and I need to work out all my plans I end up not having money or find some or other reason why my holiday must be delayed.

It’s 2008 and this year I decided things will be different. Work all the time and no play are just not on anymore! This year I am going to have my special beach holiday- filled with summer sun, cocktails, beautiful sunsets and of course partying till the sun shines its first rays over the beach in the early morning.

As I’m discussing my plans for my beach vacation, everyone questions me on where I want to go. I answer that question with my needs: 1. I want to be close to the beach- it’s a beach vacation afterall! 2. I want to be able to walk to the clubs and restaurants 3. I want to be able to actually see the beach from my balcony.

After going through all the hotspots in the Western Cape, I finally decided on Camps Bay close to Cape Town. My friends always go on about Camps Bay and after some thorough research on the Internet, I quickly concluded that Camps Bay is exactly the place that would suit my every whim.

Cape Town is the playground of the rich and famous, but along with that comes picture perfect beach vacations, people bronzing in the summer sun and long stemmed cocktails infused with colours and flavours!

The apartment I found is perfect for my beach vacation- even better it’s laced with a romantic vibe so I can take the love of my life with and have an absolute blast!

Beautiful Camps Bay ocean views, a private balcony, air-con, pool area, barbeque facilities- you name it they’ve got it. Best of all it’s one street away from the promenade where the streets buzz with people, the café’s entertain and the azure blue waters of the beach paint pictures on the sand.

Because Cape Town is so full in December, I decided to book AND pay early- ensuring there’s no way for me to postpone yet another year. I can’t wait to go and explore the beautiful Cape and have lots and lots of summer fun!

Isn’t it time you rewarded yourself for all your hard work too?

Toronto Travel Tips

One of my favorite vacation spots is Toronto, Canada. Coming from the city of Detroit, it is only about three and half hours away. It is a straight shot up the 401 highway once your cross the border in Detroit.

Toronto has often been called the New York City of Canada. I think it lives up to this comparison. However, Toronto is much cleaner and safer than New York City. I have been amazed at how clean the city is for such a large population. I have also never felt in danger even when walking around past midnight.

As far as things to see and do, you will never run out. I have probably made about twenty five trips to Toronto in my life and I have never been bored. There is always old favorites along with new things popping up all the time.

Below is my list of the top ten things you should see and do in Toronto. These are things that you should not miss on your visit.

1. Take a walk down Bloor Street. This is the Park Avenue of Toronto. You will find all of the fancy shops on this street. Including Gucci, Prada, and the amazing Holt-Renfrew department store. If you can afford $500 for a pair of jeans, this is the place for you. Beyond the expensive stores, it is a nice walk and great people watching. And as always, window shopping is free.

2. Visit the quirky shops of Queen Street. This street is synonymous with the term "Funky". You will find hip clothing stores, independent record shops, and other off the wall type establishments. Favorite bar to visit on this street is the legendary Horseshoe Tavern. Every great Canadian music act has played there.

3. Stroll through Chinatown. Looking for dim sum? Exotic Chinese herbs? Rare teas? Toronto's Chinatown is the place for you. Chinese restaurants shy away from the traditional "North American Chinese" menu. Instead, they serve up variety of authentic dishes that feed the over 400,000 people of Chinese background in Toronto.

4. Shop at the Eaton Center. I am not one for shopping malls. However, I do love the Eaton Center. The mall itself is a six storey glass ceiling structure modeled after Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. It has over 285 stores with a great food court on the lower level. Make sure to visit New York fries and order the Poutine. A blend of french fries, cheese curds and gravy.

5. Take a trip on the subway. The Toronto subway is clean, safe, and easy to navigate. There are two main lines, the Younge-University-Spadina and the Bloor-Danforth. From the subway, you can get to all of the main tourist hotspots.

6. Visit the top of the CN Tower. The world's tallest building at 553m (1815 ft). The view is amazing. At the top of the tower is the 360 restaurant. This is a world class restaurant. The floor does a complete rotation every 72 minutes. When dining, you will get to view the city below from each direction.

7. What would a visit to the great white north be without a bit of hockey? Toronto is home to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Hockey has a special place in the national conscious of the Canadians. Make sure to visit the Wayne Gretzky area.

8. Gourmets will love St. Lawrence Market. Considered in the top twenty five markets in the world, it has over 50 specialty vendors. Great vegetables, fruits, meat, cheese, and seafood abound. On the lower level, visit the St. Lawrence Market Juice Bar. They specialize in freshly squeezed juices of all kinds and related products.

9. Visit the eclectic Kensington Market area. Dating back to the original settlement of Toronto in 1790s by the British, you will now find a diverse area of shopping representing the cultures of Portuguese, East Indian, Ethiopian and Caribbean.

10. Eat in Little Italy. For my money, the restaurants in Little Italy represent are the best restaurants in all of Toronto. Beyond restaurants, you will find exciting night life in this area. This includes wonderful Italian coffee shops, gelato, music bars, and even Latin dancing.

I hope these tips will help you enjoy your visit to Toronto.

Top 9 Argentina Travel Tip

Argentina is a popular destination, but it's important to note on any vacation that there can be cultural, geological and meteoroligical differences when travelling abroad that could potentially ruin your entire trip. While in some places the differences can be minor, in others you could deeply offend a person by doing something you thought to be kosher. Don't let this happen to you, below are what I believe to be the top 7 Argentina travel tips. Follow these tips and you'll be sure to leave an impression of courtesy and enjoy more hospitality from the locals.

1. The most common form of greeting in Argentina betwen friends is kissing one anothers cheeks, so don't be caught off guard when someone makes a lunge toward your cheek. And return the favour out of courtesy if they have.

2. Once in Argentina, one of main methods of transportation is underground shuttle, or by bus/trolley bus, or taxi. Their are 5 main public ral lines, labelled A to E and services operate from early mornng to late at night on a fixed-fare basis. Buses are generally very crowded but are often the quickest means from one place to another.

3. Spanish is the offical language of Argentina, while English is widely spoken - don't rely on everyone to speak English, you should at least get some basic Spanish down before travelling to Argentina.

4. More then 90 per cent of Argentina's religious faith lies in the Roman Catholic church. Remember this as it does have an effect on what is kosher and what is not.

5. Argentina has 5 major airlines in an effort to make the big country smaller when travelling. Oddly enough, sometimes a flight will be faster and cheaper then say a bus or a taxi, so look into flying as a possible means of transportation for those slightly longer endevours.

6. You can get answers to most of your questions about Argentina tourism from the Argentina Tourist Information Center:

Secretariat of Tourism, Tourist Information Centers: Av. Santa Fe 883, (C1059ABC) Buenos Aires, Tel. 4312-2232 or 0800-555-0016; Ezeiza International Airport and Jorge Newbery Airport; info@turismo.gov.ar.

7. The official currency of Argentina is the peso, ills come in 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 pesos. One pesos equals one hundred cents. 2 pesos are blue, 5 pesos are green, 10 pesos are brown, 20 pesos are red, 50 peseos are grey, and 100 pesos are purple/violet.

8. Tips are somewhat outlawed in Argentina, though people still expect a tip in most situations - if that's the case 10 percent of the bill as your tip will suffice for the most part.

9. The Argentina time zone is Argentina Standard Time, which is GMT -3 hours, and GMT -4 hours in the summer. So set your watches correctly!

And the best tip of all is to plan ahead, use caution and common sense, and most of all - have fun!

Tips For The Screening Process For Travelers With Disabilities And Medical Conditions

* If a personal search is required you may choose to remain in the public area or go to a private area for your screening. If you refuse either option you will not be able to fly.

    * You should be offered a private screening before the beginning of a pat-down inspection if the pat-down will require the lifting of clothing and/or display of a covered medical device.

    * You should be offered a disposable paper drape for additional privacy before the beginning of a pat-down.

    * You may request a private area for your personal search at any time during the screening process.

    * Your companion, assistant, or family member may accompany you and assist you during a private or public screening. After providing this assistance, the companion, assistant, or family member will need to be rescreened.

    * You may ask for a chair if you need to sit down during the screening process.

    * You should be allowed to raise you arms out during an inspection only as far as you indicate you can.

    * You should be allowed to remain in your wheelchair if you indicate that you are unable to stand and/or walk through the metal detector.

    * You may request a pat-down inspection in lieu of going through the metal detector or being hand-wanded. You do not need to disclose why you would like this option.

    * If you have a disability, condition, or implant, that you would like to remain private and confidential, ask the Security Officer to please be discreet when assisting you through the screening process.

    * You have the right to ask a Security Officer to change her/his gloves during the physical inspection of your accessible property, before performing a physical search (pat-down,) or any time a Security Officer handles your footwear.

    * Medication and related supplies that are carried through a checkpoint are normally X-rayed. However, as a customer service, TSA now allows you the option of requesting a visual inspection of your medication and associated supplies.

          * You must request a visual inspection before the screening process begins; otherwise you medications and supplies will undergo X-ray inspection.

          * If you would like to take advantage of this option, please have your medication and associated supplies separated from your other property and in a separate pouch/bag when you approach the Security Officer at the walk-through metal detector. Request the visual inspection and hand your medication bag to the Security Officer.

          * In order to prevent contamination or damage to medication and associated supplies and/or fragile medical materials, you will be asked at the security checkpoint to display, handle, and repack your own medication and associated supplies during the visual inspection.

          * Any medication and/or associated supplies that cannot be cleared visually must be submitted for X-ray screening. If you refuse, you will not be permitted to carry your medications and related supplies into the sterile area.

Make sure you check for the latest updates at the TSA web site.

The Ultimate Hotel Guide To New York City

New York City is the city that never sleeps, es verdad? Well, it’s certainly no wonder with so many places and stuff that would please all the senses. There’s the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Madison Square Garden and God knows what else. But the question is...where do you stay in New York City?

Admittedly, the cost of living, especially rent expenses, is still rocketing sky high in New York City. If you know where to look, a lot of restaurants offer affordable yet tasty dishes so food’s no problem. When it comes to shopping, don’t think that New York City is just all about Macy’s. Of course not! There are a lot of bazaars that are ongoing throughout New York City and all you need is an efficient guide to help you out. For tourist spots, you shouldn’t believe either that everything in New York City comes with a ticket price. Nuh-uh! In fact, just walking in downtown New York is already a sight to behold.

So the only problem is, yes, where to stay?

Before I launch on a list of New York City hotels that could interest you, first, I have to warn you that what’s termed as “affordable” in New York City may not be “affordable” in your vocabulary. So if you’re cash strapped, better check first if you’ve got some friends living in New York City who’d lend you a room for a week or two as you go sight-seeing.

New York is a city of high rise towers and a number of those are hotels that you can take your pick of. These buildings range from the five star hotels to the funky ones to hotels with “affordable” packages.

Four Season Hotel : if you’ve got kids, then you should consider staying in this kid-friendly hotel because guests under 18 can stay for free. The tallest hotel in New York City, it also provides its family guests with coloring books, a video lending library and welcome gifts for kids.

Soho Grand Hotel : if you’re the type of traveler who can’t bear to leave your behind, have no fear because there are several hotels in New York that can accommodate furry guests, just like the Soho Grand Hotel. Upon checkout, you’ll even be given a goldfish to remember your New York holiday.

Affinia 50 Suites : this particular hotel has no difficulties in landing a Top 10 spot in any survey when it comes to being the best hotel in New York City. Previously known as the Plaza 50 Suites, this is a no-fuss-comfort-zone for travelers who want basic accommodations that would also be easy on the pockets. Large suites equipped with kitchenettes are also available if you so prefer.

Hilton Time Square : Never mind Paris Hilton and her notorious antics. At least her family still hasn’t stopped in being one of the best when you’re talking about hotel services.

The Hilton Time Square is one of the poshest hotels in New York City, with a twenty-five-seater theater and even its own wax museum! And just because it’s posh, don’t assume that the staff would turn its nose up on noisy, bratty kids or dirty, scrambling house pets. Nuh-uh! The Hilton Time Square aims to please all forms of guests, human and non human, adult and kids.

So now, all you need to do is choose which hotel you’re going to stay, pay the bill, enjoy the scenery and of course, tour New York City!

The Top 5 Amenities of a Miami Beach Hotel

Miami Beach is fast becoming one of the top vacation destinations for families and travelers alike.  Miami Beach offers sun, fun and a variety of activities to choose from.  No that you have decided to vacation in Miami Beach, it is time to choose the hotel that you will reside in for your vacation.  With a plethora of hotel options how does one pick the perfect Miami Beach hotel?  A good way to choose a hotel is by the amenities that the hotel has to offer.  One of the biggest disappointments that I have encountered is getting to a hotel and expecting a service that the hotel does not offer.  With all the travel tools that are available on the web, you can do a little research before you go to make sure you get what you want.  Listed below are what I feel are the top 5 amenities that a hotel can offer to you and your family to make your accommodation choice perfect for you.

#1 Amenity - Beach Access and Pool
When you are in Miami you are there for a reason.  Chances are you are there to have fun on the beach.  Many hotels in Miami have beach access right at the hotel.  While some don't, chances are there is a beach not far, usually within walking distance from the hotel.  When it comes to beach access, determine how much time you will be spending on the beach, and how long you want to travel to get to one.  Another consideration is cost.  Hotels that have private beach access tend to be more expensive than hotels that don't.

When choosing a Miami Beach hotel, consider whether or not you would like the hotel to have a pool, and make sure that the pool is open.  Hotels do go through renovations and sometimes they don't list whether the pool is open while you are there.  It can ruin a vacation if the kids want to go to the pool and you find out it is closed due to renovation while you are there.  A hotel may list that they have a poll on their website, but it is still a good ides to give the hotel a call to make sure the pool will be open while you are there.

#2 Amenity - Onsite Dining
While it is nice to experience dining outside your hotel, sometimes vacationing can make you tired and you may not want to leave your hotel.  When choosing a hotel, check to see what kind of dining options the hotel offers.  Some hotels offer only 1 or 2 choices for dining, while others offer an assortment of options.  Many of the hotels offer fine dining in the evening so it might be good to check on what type of attire is suitable for this type of restaurant.

#3 Amenity - Spa and/or Health Club
Many Hotels today offer an onsite spa or fitness center.  If you are looking to pamper yourself while you are on vacation, check into these choices.  While some hotels offer onsite spas and fitness centers, others offer affiliate programs.  These programs offer discounts to nearby spas or fitness centers.  A lot of times when a spa is offsite the hotel will provide transportation.  It is still a good idea to check with the hotel to see what they do and do not offer in regards to a spa and health club.  Many hotels also offer spa packages or specials that are included in the packages, so check into this and save some money by booking it all together.

#4 Amenity - Children's Activities
Miami Beach is a great family destination.  When choosing a hotel, make sure it offers something for everyone.  Many hotels offer things for children, such as a kiddy pool and playground equipment.  Others offer activities for older children such as table games and arcades right in the hotel.  Check these out before you go to make sure the whole family is happy.

#5 Amenity - Onsite Entertainment
Many hotels offer entertainment right at the hotel.  This can be a major consideration when booking a room.  While many people enjoy the onsite entertainment some people don't.  Check to see what kind of entertainment the hotel offers, and what time it ends.  If events end later than you would like, and you still like the hotel, request a room away from the area where the entertainment or event is being held.  If onsite entertainment is your thing, it is a good idea to talk with the hotel's concierge to get a list of events going on at the hotel.

Every Miami Beach Hotel offers something a little bit different.  Before choosing one, consider the above amenities and others that I have not mentioned before planning your next vacation.  View the hotel's website as well as other online sources to see what other guests have said about the hotel you are thinking about.
