Tips For The Screening Process For Travelers With Disabilities And Medical Conditions

* If a personal search is required you may choose to remain in the public area or go to a private area for your screening. If you refuse either option you will not be able to fly.

    * You should be offered a private screening before the beginning of a pat-down inspection if the pat-down will require the lifting of clothing and/or display of a covered medical device.

    * You should be offered a disposable paper drape for additional privacy before the beginning of a pat-down.

    * You may request a private area for your personal search at any time during the screening process.

    * Your companion, assistant, or family member may accompany you and assist you during a private or public screening. After providing this assistance, the companion, assistant, or family member will need to be rescreened.

    * You may ask for a chair if you need to sit down during the screening process.

    * You should be allowed to raise you arms out during an inspection only as far as you indicate you can.

    * You should be allowed to remain in your wheelchair if you indicate that you are unable to stand and/or walk through the metal detector.

    * You may request a pat-down inspection in lieu of going through the metal detector or being hand-wanded. You do not need to disclose why you would like this option.

    * If you have a disability, condition, or implant, that you would like to remain private and confidential, ask the Security Officer to please be discreet when assisting you through the screening process.

    * You have the right to ask a Security Officer to change her/his gloves during the physical inspection of your accessible property, before performing a physical search (pat-down,) or any time a Security Officer handles your footwear.

    * Medication and related supplies that are carried through a checkpoint are normally X-rayed. However, as a customer service, TSA now allows you the option of requesting a visual inspection of your medication and associated supplies.

          * You must request a visual inspection before the screening process begins; otherwise you medications and supplies will undergo X-ray inspection.

          * If you would like to take advantage of this option, please have your medication and associated supplies separated from your other property and in a separate pouch/bag when you approach the Security Officer at the walk-through metal detector. Request the visual inspection and hand your medication bag to the Security Officer.

          * In order to prevent contamination or damage to medication and associated supplies and/or fragile medical materials, you will be asked at the security checkpoint to display, handle, and repack your own medication and associated supplies during the visual inspection.

          * Any medication and/or associated supplies that cannot be cleared visually must be submitted for X-ray screening. If you refuse, you will not be permitted to carry your medications and related supplies into the sterile area.

Make sure you check for the latest updates at the TSA web site.

Natural Energy Boosters to Combat Extreme Tiredness and Fatigue

 by Tess Thompson

 What is Fatigue?

Fatigue is a symptom rather than a specific illness or disorder. While it is common to have the occasional day where you feel tired and less energetic than usual, people suffering with fatigue feel tired and lethargic all the time and seem to lack energy.

Affecting both body and mind, long periods of fatigue can seriously impair your daily functioning and make even the simplest of lifes responsibilities difficult to cope with. Both physical and mental fatigue are the first signs that the body is being damaged and placed under unhealthy stress.

While many cases of fatigue can be rectified by changes in nutrition, environment, stress levels or sleep patterns, it may also be a symptom of a more serious problem. Because it is such a common complaint, it is often overlooked and relatively few people seek medical advice or take the necessary steps to changing an unhealthy lifestyle.

If you have been suffering with chronic fatigue it is important to examine your life-style and take action. If your fatigue continues, a medical evaluation is recommended.

Is Fatigue a Serious Problem?

If fatigue becomes an ongoing problem it is important to address it. The first step is to take a look at life-style factors that may be contributing to your feelings of fatigue.

If however the fatigue continues or you feel that you dont have the energy to address life-style problems, it is advisable to seek medical advice to rule out any serious conditions and explore treatment options.

It is especially important to call your general health practitioner if you present with other symptoms.

Diagnosing Fatigue

Your doctor will ask you to describe the fatigue symptoms that you are experiencing. Keep a record of when you feel fatigued as the pattern of your fatigue may give clues to the underlying cause. For example note if you wake up feeling refreshed, but rapidly lose energy through the day, or if you wake up feeling tired and energy-less.

Your doctor will also need to ask about your medical history, your current life-style and how youve been feeling emotionally lately. A full medical check may also include blood tests to check for anemia, thyroid function, and possible infection as well as a urinalysis.

Fatigue Symptoms

Fatigue symptoms can be accompanied by or manifest in a range of other physical and emotional complaints. These include:

    * Constant tiredness or sleepiness
    * Lack of energy
    * Desire to sleep more
    * Headaches
    * Aching muscles or joints
    * Muscle weakness
    * Slower reflexes and responses rates
    * Indecision and poor judgment
    * Low mood, irritability or depression
    * Changes in appetite
    * Lowered immune system functioning
    * Problems with short term memory
    * Attention difficulties and poor concentration
    * Poor motivation

Help for Fatigue

Fatigue will be treated according to the underlying cause. In some cases, simply adjusting your life-style to include appropriate dietary, exercise and sleep needs will be enough to combat fatigue. In other cases where medical causes are at play, treating the medical illness is the first plan of action.

Natural herbal and homeopathic remedies can be a great help when trying to combat fatigue. Certain herbs are known for their tonic effect on systemic functioning as well as their ability to increase strength and endurance, while energizing both mind and body.

Herbs such as Siberian Ginseng, Olea europea (extract of olive leaf) and Centella asiatica are commonly used to fight fatigue and boost energy without negative side effects - like those possible with pharmaceutical or dietary stimulants.

These herbal ingredients can be taken to naturally assist overall systemic functioning, help to balance all body systems naturally and are often taken by athletes, those recovering from illness or those that need the extra boost to help manage a busy life-style.

Tuberculosis Signs and Symptoms

by Manoj Patel

 Tuberculosis (TB) is a very common infection in India that is also very contagious. When an infected person sneezes or coughs, air particles containing the TB bacteria can easily spread and each infected person can further infect up to another 10 people each year. According to WHO, India accounts for about 20% of the global TB cases. Each year, about 2 million people in India develop TB, and over 300,000 die because of it.

Find out more about the TB bacteria and how it spreads here.

Who is at risk of contracting TB?

Anyone can contract TB, especially if they are in a closed space with the affected person. The unaffected person inhales droplets with bacteria and these bacteria reach the lungs. Here, the immune system puts up a fight against the bacteria. If successful, the bacteria will remain in the lungs but in a "latent" form. If the immune system is unsuccessful in containing the bacteria, then an active case of TB can develop. Once the bacteria invade the body and overwhelm the immune response of the body, they can also find their way to various organs through the blood stream.

Signs and Symptoms of TB

People with a latent TB infection don't have any symptoms, don't feel sick and cannot infect others. They do, however, test positive to the Mantoux Skin Test. Treating latent TB is important since it can get activated, especially if the immune system is weakened for any reason, including nutritional deficiencies or infection with HIV.

In the case of an active infection, signs and symptoms vary according to the organ that is affected.

In case the lungs are affected, the symptoms are:
- A cough persisting for 2 to 3 weeks and beyond, which is usually worse in the mornings
- Chest pain
- Blood in the sputum (the mucus and saliva produced when coughing or clearing throat)
- Breathlessness

Back pain may be caused by tuberculosis of the spine, and blood in the urine may be caused by tuberculosis in your kidneys.

TB in the brain can cause headaches, a stiff neck, confusion, vomiting, an altered mental state, seizures and other signs and symptoms related to the nerves.

In general, a person with active TB in any organ may have these signs and symptoms:

- Weight loss
- Loss of appetite
- Chills
- Fever
- Sweating in the night time while sleeping, even if the weather is cold

If TB is suspected, what should you do?

If you or someone you know is experiencing any of these symptoms, or has reason to think they have been exposed to TB then they should seek consultation from a healthcare worker and the public health authorities. These healthcare workers will perform one of two tests: a test on the skin and one of the sputum (mucus produced when coughing). Those who have had the BCG vaccine against TB, which is mandatory at birth in India, may have a "positive" skin test despite not being infected with TB.

The skin test will need to be re-examined two days after it is given. If a sputum sample is provided, the results may take longer as they need to be sent for laboratory work.
